Taking the bread roll one stage further - delicious eaten warm with butter.
Ingredients
- 200g (8oz) strong plain flour
- ½ x 5ml spoon (teaspoon) salt
- 1 x 5ml spoon (teaspoon) easy blend yeast
- 120ml (4fl oz) warm water
- 25g (1oz)melted margarine
- 25g (1oz) caster sugar
- 1 x 15ml spoon (tablespoon) dried milk
- 50g (2oz)dried fruit
- ½ x 5ml spoon (teaspoon) mixed spice
- sugar glaze or glace icing
Making and cooking it
1. Place flour in mixing bowl with sugar, salt, yeast, dried milk and dried fruit
2. Pour warm (37°C) water and melted margarine into a well in the centre of the flour and mix with a knife to form a dough
3. Knead dough on a lightly floured table for 5-10 minutes
4. Preheat oven to 220°C/425°f/Gas Mark 7
5. Knead the dough and divide into six equal portions
6. Shape each into a neat round
7. Leave to prove for 15 minutes
8. Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown
9. Cool on a wire rack
10. Brush with sugar and water glaze or, when cool, with glace icing
