Making and cooking it
  1. Wash and dry the apples, they need to be completely dry
  2. Push a wooden stick firmly into the core of each
  3. Put the rest of the ingredients into the pan, put in the sugar thormometer- it helps if you tie this to the handle so it can't fall in. It MUST go in now, if you put it into the hot pan it may break
  4. Stir the ingredients at a low heat until all the sugar has dissolved
  5. Turn the heat up and stop sirring, leave to boil steadily for about 5 minutes, until the temperature reaches 143C or 290F. This is the temperature for Soft Crack toffee
  6. Remove the pan from the heat and tilt so the toffee is deep at one side
  7. Dip each apple, one at a time, letting excess toffee drain off
  8. Place each apple onto the buttered baking sheet or waxed paper
  9. Once the toffee has hardened you can wrap them in cellophane or serve cooled
