This is a quick and simple method for making custard. It is much easier than the traditional method of making custard which uses a bain-marie. Try this custard with fruit pies like our Blackberry and Apple Pie or cold with tinned fruit as a quick dessert.

Making and cooking it
  1. In the mixing bowl, use a little of the milk to mix the custard powder and sugar into a smooth paste
  2. Heat the rest of the milk in the pan, take care that it does not boil over
  3. Pour the hot milk onto the custard mix, whisking continuously or you might get lumpy custard
  4. Return the contents of the bowl to the saucepan and bring to the boil, whisking all the time
  5. Once the custard has thickened, pour into a serving jug
