Cherry Gingerbread Shapes

Making and cooking it
  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°f/Gas Mark 5
  2. Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ginger into a large mixing bowl
  3. Reserve a few cherries for the decoration and then add the remaining cherries to the bowl and mix well
  4. Place the butter, syrup and sugar into a saucepan and stir over a gentle heat until melted
  5. Remove from the heat and stir in the egg
  6. Gradually pour the syrup mixture into the flour and mix together to form a soft dough
  7. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to 5mm thickness
  8. Shape using cookie cutters or a sharp knife
  9. Decorate with the reserved cherries and bake for 10-15mins until golden and crisp
  10. Place on a wire tray and allow to cool before serving
