Comments: Care will be needed with the melting of the sugar, syrup and butter, and with the oven.  A fish slice, or something similar, maybe helpful to lift the uncooked gingerbread men onto the baking tray.

Gingerbread men are great fun to make and decorate and yummy to eat.
Ingredients
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp mixed spice
  • 2 tsp bicarbonate
  • 115 g butter
  • 100 g golden syrup
  • 115 light muscovado sugar
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 20 cherries
  • 85 g icing sugar
  • 69 g chocolate liquid

  • Sieve 
  • Rolling pin 
  • Gingerbread man shaped cutter

 

Making and cooking it

  1. Pre-heat the oven at 160c
  2. Sift the flour, ginger, mixed spice and bicarbonate of soda into a large bowl
  3. Place the butter, golden syrup and muscovado sugar in a saucepan over a low heat and stir until melted
  4. Pour onto the dry ingredients and add the egg
  5. Mix together to make a dough
  6. The dough will be sticky to start with, but will become firmer as it cools
  7. On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the dough to about 3mm thick and stamp out gingerbread people shapes
  8. Place on the prepared baking trays
  9. Re-knead and re-roll the trimmings and cut out more shapes
  10. Decorate with cherries for eyes
  11. Bake in the pre heated oven for 15-20 mins
  12. Remove the gingerbread men from the oven
  13. Now make your icing and decorate the gingerbrad men
  14. Place them on a plate, then with your chocolate liquid pour around the gingerbread men
