A simple and tasty jam.  Figs are a very healthy and delicious fruit and home made jam is generally much healthier than shop bought, as there are no additives. Sugar is a necessary ingredient to preserve the jam, but does mean one should only eat it in moderation.
  • 1kg fresh figs
  • 750g caster sugar
  • 1tbsp grounc allspice
  • 1tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 juice and zest of lemon
  • Chopping board
  • Sharp knife
  • Sieve
  • Large pan
  • Sterilised Jars
Making and cooking it

  1. Chop up figs
  2. Add sugar, spices, juice and zest
  3. Cover with a tea towel and leave for 2 hours
  4. Transfer to a large pan and bring to the boil
  5. Stir until sugar has absorbed
  6. Boil for 30 minutes
  7. When set pour into sterilised jars
  8. Seal, cool and label the jars
  9. Once opened eat within 4 weeks
