British tomatoes are in season and at their best during July. This salad will give you a taste of the Mediterranean.
  • 6 ripe, tomatoes (either home grown or on the vine)
  • 1 fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 16 large basil leaves
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • 30ml (2 tablespoons) olive oil
  • Tablespoon
  • Knife
  • Chopping Board
  • Shallow Bowl or Plate
Making and cooking it

  1. Carefully slice the tomatoes, about 5mm (¼") thick
  2. Cut the mozzarella in half and then slice each half into circles, about 5mm (¼")thick
  3. Arrange the tomatoes and mozzarella together in a shallow bowl or plate
  4. Tear the basil leaves into pieces and scatter onto the tomatoes and mozzarella
  5. Grind plenty of black pepper over the salad
  6. Sprinkle with the olive oil, leave to stand for 5 minutes, then serve
