Number of servings: Makes 6 rounds, 24 sandwich triangles.

Sandwiches had been a favourite food for tea since Edwardian times. By the 1970's however, prepackaged sliced bread (in a variety of thicknesses) was now available, making the preparation of sandwiches so much easier.

Soft margarine was also available, meaning that it could be spread easily straight from the fridge.

Also in the shops were a greater variety of jam, spreads and pastes, making it easy to cater for different children's tastes as well as for the sandwiches to look varied and attractive when presented on the plate.
