Apple Crumble

The Interwar period generated much interest in baking. Traditional dishes such as crumbles and pies were very popular. There are many variations you might try, such as adding cinnamon and raisins or blackberries to the apples or chopped nuts into the topping, but the one cooked here is the simplest.


Making and cooking it
  1. Peel, core and slice the apples
  2. Arrange the slices in a greased oven-proof dish 
  3. Sprinkle on 4 tbsp sugar
  4. In a new bowl, rub the butter into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs
  5. Mix the sugar in with a fork 
  6. Spoon it over the apples
  7. Bake in the oven Gas 4, 180C, 350F for 30 minutes
  8. Serve hot
