Apples are available all year round, though British apples are at their best from September through to November. They are a good source of vitamins A and C, as well as fibre. Cooking apples have a sharper flavour which is balanced by honey in this recipe.  if you use eating apples you might want to leave out the honey.
Ingredients
  • 4 cooking apples
  • 4 tsp runny honey
  • 40g sultanas or raisins
  • 25g porridge oats
  • water
Equipment
  • Teaspoon
  • Knife
  • Chopping board
  • Weighing scales
  • Peeler
  • Oven proof dish
  • Bowl
  • Metal spoon

1. Pre-heat oven to 190°C / Gas Mark 5  
2. Wash the apples and remove the apple cores with a potato peeler or sharp knife
3. Then score  (cut just through the skin) each apple with a sharp knife all the way around the centre of the apple
4. Sit the apples upright in an ovenproof dish
5. Add enough cold water to cover the base of the dish  
5. Mix the raisins, porridge oats and honey in a bowl and stuff into the apples
6. Bake in the centre of the oven for about 40 minutes

This (although w/out the oats) has been a recipe standard in my family for generations. Adding in the oats--> wonderful.
Here in Louisiana (southern US) we substitute brown cane sugar for the honey.
